About Erfocentrum

It is our mission to inform people on heredity in relation to health and hereditary conditions.

Ideally, Dutch citizens are responsible for their own health. To achieve this they need to be able to access, appraise, understand and apply health-related information so that they can make informed decisions. Health care professionals can help them through shared decision making.

The Erfocentrum provides textual and visual information (e.g. decision aids, brochures, and animations) on genetics on various websites.
Our main website is www.erfelijkheid.nl. This website has approximately 3 million visitors per year. People also can ask questions via erfolijnaterfocentrum.nl (erfolijn[at]erfocentrum[dot]nl.)

The Erfocentrum is a not-for-profit organization, mainly financed by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and the Dutch departments of genetics. Occasionally we participate in publicly funded projects.

Dutch citizens can rely on our independent information, which is updated regularly. The information is particularly interesting for people with hereditary diseases and their families. The information is also useful for healthcare professionals. They can use this when informing patients and families who have to make decisions on heredity.
